I am a philosopher by education and discipline. I have been collecting bits of wisdom in the form of words and quotations for almost fifty years. These words have come from writers, poets, politicians, the every day man and woman, the famous and the infamous.
I am a poet at heart and lover of words. When nothing else can get me through the day, I am confident in opening a book of poems I will find words to ease my burden, lighten my heart and bring me to a place of peace with this life I live. These poems and poets make up the Poetry Anthology I always wanted to create.
I have always loved clouds in all their variations. The dark clouds of storms, the puffy white thunderheads of changes to come, the strata, the cumulus, the nimbus, the female and the male. I love the poetry of clouds. Clouds and poetry have the same source of inspiration.
I write primarily to share the things I love most in this world. Available here are my collected writings, poetry, photographs and dreams. I write because I have a mind needing to express itself with words.
I am older now and although I still philosophize on many of the topics I have previously written about, my place in the world is changing. Life seems more precious when one has less time to live but there is also a particular kind of joy that comes with growing older. I intend to entertain all I am capable of in these continued writings, wisdom, poetry and clouds. This is how I get to play each moment with all that is.
A diary from the two CoVid-19 Lockdowns I survived in Loja , Ecuador almost immediately following my move from Cuenca
It was a dream that brought me here the first time to this picturesque place of beauty, fields and streams, forests and lakes. The Inn was an old, large wooden barn where craftsmen and women came to practice their art and writers, poets, artists, and philosophers came to talk and share their thoughts. I had the inspiration to bring all my favorite people here to share their stories and to inspire others.
I have learned from living that activities of any importance eventually become ritual. This morning I am siting on my verandah. The sun is lazily rising to my left. The morning breeze gently carries the scent of peace, the songs of singing birds, and the soft swirling of the incoming tide. Before my eyes are coconuts, pineapples, lemon grass, breadfruit, the warm calm waters of the South Pacific. A lone mongoose scatters across the yard.
One of the activities I engage in everyday when possible is a walk along the Tomebamba River near my home in Cuenca, Ecuador. During this walking meditation my mind wonders along with that of the river. I love the sound of water. When the river is high, it blocks out the sounds of the city and my mind transcends to other worlds while my feet remain firmly in contact with the cobblestoned path. This path for a little while becomes a Yellow Brick Road into my own thoughts and life.
This is the place I call home. A magical city high in the Andes Mountains of South America.
Part of the experience of my adventure this next year is spending time at Esalen Institute. Unlike a place like Los Angeles which I think of as more of a lifestyle than a city, Esalen is a unique oasis carver out of the coastal rock in the Big Sur area of California. It is to most who come here a heaven but it can also be one’s hell. The Esalen property represents the yin and yang of life and reflects as clearly as a mirror whatever is inside me.
I write poetry because I am often visited by poems wanting to be written down and shared. With me a poem happens more than it is created.
The fact that this story is in the realm of science fiction and fantasy is due to the first fantasy series I read and fell in love with, the EarthSea series by Ursula K Le Guin. Later I read J R R Tolkien and CS Lewis but Le Guin was the first. She was the one who instilled in me a love of dragons. This story is a humble, fictional continuation of the tale you created…Dedicated to you.
